New Notice

I have decided to document my journey back to vidding with vids that are completely free of copyright problems. I did not think it would be a problem. But after a week or two I found there would be significant boulders in my path. I think it's going to take a little longer than I thought.

Notice

I always said I'd continue with this blog as long as it was fun and no real work. But it's starting to look like it's neither one anymore.

YouTube, the main place I find material, is on a copyright rampage. Many of the accounts and vids I had found earlier are simply not there anymore. In the past two weeks I've run across more than two dozen terminated accounts and missing vids. It's getting downright discouraging.

To top it off my personnel YouTube account has taken multiple Content ID hits, blocking of a few other vids, and a Copyright strike. All on vids that have been up for months, even years. I don't see my account lasting for very much longer at this rate.

All this had left me in a depressed mood and not very excited about looking around for new vids to post. I figure that soon there won't be anymore material to use anyway.

So before I allow this to get me more depressed I call it an end to this project. It was a blast while it lasted but it's not making me happy anymore.

And I figure that sooner or later with SOPA/PIPA almost certain to pass that this blog wouldn't weather the storm either.

Where have all the vidders gone...

About once a week I go through the library of mashups I've collected and prep a week's worth of entries. I know that every so often I will run into one which has disappeared due to the account getting suspended, the vidder closed their account, or I got no clue what happened-it just disappeared.

But this last week I ran into over a dozen mashups which were nowhere to be found. Ten of them due to accounts getting suspended. This does not bode well. That tells me YouTube is getting more aggressive in it's copyright takedowns. But worst than that - it discourages vidders from continuing the fine work they were doing.

So what does that mean for this blog?

Well, if it continues at the rate it's going I could easily run out of decent mashups in less than a year. And the takedowns make it all the harder to find replacements. There are probably hundreds of wonderful mashups that I've never seen due to the copyright wars.

So for what it's worth, I love finding these gems and posting them. But if it starts to get impossible to find them this blog may just have to close its doors.

I hope that doesn't happen...

This is not a mashup. But if this becomes law sites like this, and many others which carry this type of content, would be taken down because they would violate the entertainment industry's precious product.

This law would severly damage creativity on the internet and leave only the big corporation capable of using material we all love using for our parodies, spoofs, and mashups.
